This song was born out of the frustration with the idea that music is "free." It was also a Song Title Challenge about a year ago. I was also pleased that it just won awards from NSAI and the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest.

"Top of the Mountain"
By Colin Clyne Copyright 2014
Verse 1
Mountain looking down on me
Know I'm coming soon
Cause I'm a dreamer dreaming high
Can you make me some room?
For the many people plenty mad at me
For my crimes of selfishness I believe
Chorus
Why do things go wrong?
When we reach the top of the mountain?
Verse 2
Well there Mr. Mountain high
Thank you for my thrill
I hate to break the news to you
You were only a hill
Maybe I am bigger than my boots?
Once again, I'll blame it on my roots
Chorus
Why do things go wrong?
When we reach the top of the mountain?
Bridge
Mountain looking down at me
I no longer believe
In the many people
Looking down at me
For my crimes
Of ignorance I believe
Chorus
Why do things go wrong?
When we reach the top of the mountain?

My neighbors "Hank and Naureen" were lovely. They were in their late 80's - one day after coming back from vacation I saw Naureen in the yard and asked her what Hank was up to. She told me had passed away a few days earlier. I was so sad and I wrote "With You" as I imagined what Naureen would be going through. I played her the song when it was finished and she really loved it which made my day.

I was imagining what it must have been like to have been a dirt farmer during the Great Depression and losing everything. How would you pray in that situation? Everything gone.
