About This Song

I guess the song is about negotiating the process of character development through the ups and downs of life.

Hey Bob, the idea is good here and I like the chorus, however I would not change it each time. Repetition is an important element of a song and helps the listener to structure the song and remember it. I think the song is also a bit too long. I’m not sure about the conga rhythm, it throws me off somehow.

On Our Way

Brothers and sisters of circumstance, puzzle pieces left to chance,
Setting out on a sea of doubt,
Everyday we live to work it out,

Through the thick, and through the thin, forgetting the time and place we’re in, remembering what it means to win, forgetting what to say,

We’re on our way, we’re on our way,
Only human win or lose,
Day by day we pay our dues,
On our way, we’re on our way,
Perfection just a distant dream,
Like a carrot on a stick it seems,

Character is born by trial, rain- soaked walks over muddy miles, Skippin’ town with the rent unpaid, and cryin’ about the bed you’ve made,

Then you drop your last coins into the cup,
Of a stranger whose only way is up,
Promises made and kept,
And the pain that you accept.

We’re on our way, we’re on our way,
One day we’re sunshine, the next we’re rain,
Miss the mark and try again,
On our way, we’re on our way,
Forgiving those who hold the blame,
‘Cause we’ve made mistakes and remember from where we came,
From where we came.

Sense of self is moderated by the things you’ve loved and the things you’ve hated,
And the promise to face yourself each day, in a mirror of truth and come what may,

But then you look, and the mirror is shattered,
You lose yourself and the things that mattered,
You take the pieces and arrange them so,
And see someone you think you’d love to know,

You’re on your way,
We’re only human after all,
Bound to grow and rise above it all,
Above it all.
We’re on our way, we’re on our way . . . (to fade)
