Written late 80’s or early 90’s…

Wanted to write a song that highlighted “who, what, when, where, why” the “How” was extra good. Recorded on final day maybe missed deadline

This song is a fanciful take on the old expression, "Don't let the door hit you on your way out" (or some version of such). That of course is usually uttered when you want someone to leave. I thought I'd use the expression, "Don't let my lips hit you on your way out" as a way of saying that you hope to make someone else want to stay.

This song was written after I was promised everything from a girl in a relationship. Once she found someone new, she left. This song was written in response to her leaving, where she has "said" many promises.

I went through a divorce long ago. One evening a friend I'd known since high school started grilling me about the specifics of the breakup as if he were considering which of us he was going to remain friends with. Rather than confront him about it directly, I opted to write a song about it. Surely others have experienced the same kind of disruptions in relationships with friends and family when a breakup affects more than just the couple parting ways.
