I went through a divorce long ago. One evening a friend I'd known since high school started grilling me about the specifics of the breakup as if he were considering which of us he was going to remain friends with. Rather than confront him about it directly, I opted to write a song about it. Surely others have experienced the same kind of disruptions in relationships with friends and family when a breakup affects more than just the couple parting ways.

(verse)
It was a dirty business, it was a crying shame
We let our love go down the drain
I was chasing women late at night in bars
It's true she was seen riding shotgun in some stranger's car
(chorus)
There are two sides to every story
The absolute truth may be hard to find
Two sides to every story
She's got hers and I've got mine.
(verse)
And it's an aggravation, it really chaps my hide
When friends insist on taking sides
You keep asking questions; why don't you let it go?
Some things even close friends don't need to know
(chorus)
There are two sides to every story
The moral to the story may be hard to find
Two sides to every story
She's got hers and I've got mine
(bridge)
I don't care what she told you
I don't care what you heard
Believe what you want to
But you can take my word ...
(instrumental)
(chorus)
There are two sides to every story
The absolute truth may be hard to find
Two sides to every story
She's got hers and I've got mine
(chorus)
Two sides to every story
The moral to the story may be hard to find
Two sides to every story
She's got hers and I've got mine
(tag)
She's got hers and I've got mine
She's got hers and I've got mine
