You’re a Few (Just like Me) – I was at my buddy's house for a little get together and I heard someone jokingly say to another “Your cornbread ain’t done in the middle”. I had never heard that before. That night, I was watching “Oh Brother where art thou”. In the movie there was the line said by George Clooney – “You’re dumber than a bag of hammers”. I had heard things like “nuttier than a fruitcake”, but these others were new to me. Now, I’m not into insults, unless they fit me as well. After the movie, I typed into the search engine “sayings like: Dumber than a bag of hammers”. There were hundreds. As I read down the list, I thought each one fit me at one time in my life. Not only that, but each of my friends fit into one of the categories. So, I thought, this would make a good country song.

South of the Snow – Written and Composed by Wayne Sinclair. It was January 21, 2019. I was a bright sunny day in Florida. I got a call from my daughter and with disgust in her voice she said – “It’s snowing again”. I watched many of my northern friends lamenting the weather on Facebook. I thought back to the many New England winters – some with hardly any snow – some with more snow than I ever wanted to shovel. I remembered how I felt when we came to Florida to visit friends in January of 2015. Warm breezes, sandy beaches, palm trees, live music venues every night of the week playing this style of music known as “Trop Rock”. I was hooked. On our return we got waylaid due to a blizzard. When I got home, I had to shovel through two feet of snow in my driveway. I thought – Never again. So in the fall we moved to Florida for our first “snowbird” season. The next year, we made it permanent. There we were – somewhere south of the snow.

Back in 2019, my mom was diagnosed with lung cancer, and just ten days into her chemo we lost her. Over the last few months, with the pandemic taking hold, I started to pick up the guitar again and write a bit. I hadn’t seriously sat down and written or recorded a song in about 8 years until now. And, I don’t usually sit down with the intention of writing about anything specific; but this time was different. The music and the words just started to flow as I thought about how connected to my mom I was, and still am, on so many levels.
