About This Song

Back in 2019, my mom was diagnosed with lung cancer, and just ten days into her chemo we lost her. Over the last few months, with the pandemic taking hold, I started to pick up the guitar again and write a bit. I hadn’t seriously sat down and written or recorded a song in about 8 years until now. And, I don’t usually sit down with the intention of writing about anything specific; but this time was different. The music and the words just started to flow as I thought about how connected to my mom I was, and still am, on so many levels.

One word - Wow.  A definite song from the heart.  Nicely done.

Hi Al,
Like the steel on the Intro … Great Pre-Chorus then the final line of the Chorus is deep.  Yes, tasteful solo.  I think “Ain’t no time to be misunderstood” line feels a little off but this is just being picky because the song is so good. If you’re the vocalist, you have a great voice so ramping it up a notch in the final chorus would drive home the emotion.  My favorite line is “Maybe now that all is said and done … I can turn my face back toward the sun.”
Thanks, Uncle Brent

Maybe now that all is said and done
I can turn my face back toward the sun
Losing you just wasn’t fair
I can feel you everywhere
I’d give the world to hold you now just once

And all that I can hope to be
Is the love you gave to me

So I’ll see you in my dreams
In the space that lives between
Let my heart light bring you home
'cause I still love you in my bones

They say in life there ain’t no guarantees
There’ll be times that bring you tour knees
But you are always in my heart
Even when we’re worlds apart
Give anything to have you here with me

And everything that I am now
Always points to you somehow

So I’ll see you in my dreams
In the space that lives between
Let my heart light bring you home
'cause I still love you in my bones

So take the time to do the things you should
Ain’t no time to be misunderstood
Love the ones who hold you dear, don’t let the chance disappear
Live the life you always knew you could

And all that I can hope to be
Is the love you gave to me

So I’ll see you in my dreams
In the space that lives between
Let my heart light bring you home
'cause I still love you in my bones
