It takes place in Watsonville, CA. I see it as the beginning to a musical but lots to figure out.

Instead of dramatic answers, the song shows God’s presence through small, everyday moments and the decision to keep going even without clarity. The heart of it isn’t “Why, God?” as a demand for explanation, but “Why, God?” as an honest prayer that turns into trust. By the end, the struggle hasn’t disappeared, but it’s been reframed. The meaning becomes that staying, believing, and moving forward is itself the answer, and God’s nearness is found in the walk, not the explanation.
