This song is about a man and a cowboy hat that he has had and wore for years. A hat thats been with him throughout some major events in his life.
I would appreciate any kind of feedback on this song. Thank you!
Thank you so much for the kind words and the feedback. I wrote it about an old black hat that I have had for years. I hoped that it would be able to pull emotions from the listener., with a focus on some of the sadder times but in the end a triumphant moment by accepting Christ.

The only part I see that might be better is where you use “hat” twice in the beginning very close together. “Just a brand new hat” - could this be upgraded to a better description?

Thank you. I will work on it and see what I can come up with. Something like “maybe travel all the way back, to when it had a darker shade of black”

If this cowboy hat could talk….what would it say
Would it want to go back to yesterdays
When it was just a brand new hat
And it had a darker shade of black
When we both had many miles left to ride….
When we were both young and time was still on our side….
We have had some eventful times along the way….
If this cowboy hat could talk….what would it say…..
Chorus:
[Would it talk about the time when I got down on one knee
Would it talk about the time when she walked out on me
Would it talk about the times spent under those neon lights
Would it talk about the times when I couldnt get things right
Would it talk about how fast these days have slipped away….
If this cowboy hat could talk….what would it say….]
It knows all the stories about all the places I have been
It’s been there right with me and at times my only friend
It’s seen it’s share of highs and it’s fair share of lows
Certain things about me, only this black hat knows
The good Lord willing we will have some more good times before we ride away
If this cowboy hat could talk……what would it say….
Chorus:
[Would it talk about the time it got thrown out of the house
Along with the rest of my things cause I wore my welcome out
Would it talk about the time when we were broke down on the side of the road
Would it talk about the time when Jesus saved my soul
Would it talk about how fast these days have slipped away….
If this cowboy hat could talk….what would it say….
Would it want to go back..to yesterdays]

Very unique approach/angle/point of view. A little sad, but that’s pulling emotion from me so that’s good ???? I like how it does convey that your one constant in your life is the hat.
