This is song about losing your father and after all the years together - how do you say goodbye

Several years ago my brother-in-laws best friend was killed. He was very young and it was such a terrible waste of a good live. After that a friend of my step-daughters was killed in an automobile accident - again a life taken too early. I struggled with how this could be and I knew there was something I needed to say and this song developed.

We were sitting around a bonfire one night, of course drinking a few beers reminiscing about our childhoods. And as the stories unfolded about big hair, pickup trucks, Trans Ams and tattoos – and how we all were in the burbs now with family vans and respectable jobs. I realized that you can grow up but you never can cover up your roots.

I wrote this thinking back about the time my heart was destroyed by someone insensitive and selfish and from that stand point that you can take my heart, you can break it, you can be indiscreet and mean, but you know there is one thing you just don’t deserve and that is a tear from my eye.
