Several years ago my brother-in-laws best friend was killed. He was very young and it was such a terrible waste of a good live. After that a friend of my step-daughters was killed in an automobile accident - again a life taken too early. I struggled with how this could be and I knew there was something I needed to say and this song developed.

You had a smile that was like the northern lights
You filled a room like the fourth of July
You were a friend like a friend should be
Believing in us when we didn't believe
Now it's hard to understand
How this could be part of a bigger plan
We lost an angel today
Tears fall down they fall like rain
The smiles that you made, the love that you gave
Will never fade away
We lost an angel today
I guess heaven couldn't wait
You always showed us loves sweet truth
The more you give the less you lose
You never said you're the perfect one
But always saw the diamond in each of us
Now as hard as I try
I can believe that there's is a reason why
We lost an angel today
Tears fall down they fall like rain
The smiles that you made, the love that you gave
Will never fade away
We lost an angel today
I guess heaven couldn't wait
And on the day when it's my time
I'm standing on the other side
Maybe then I'll know the reason why
We lost an angel today
Tears fall down they fall like rain
The smiles that you made, the love that you gave
Will never fade away
We lost an angel today
I guess heaven couldn't wait

Ted - It’s good to hear some of your songs after all these years. This is a sweet, well constructed, country song with a very strong chorus. I really liked the melody and the production, as well. My only input is that I think you weakened the message in your bridge with the last 2 lines of your 2nd verse. I think it would have been stronger to repeat the last 2 lines of your 1st verse at the end of the 2nd verse. Then the “maybe then I’ll know the reason why” line would have had more impact.
Good song.
