About This Song

Got the idea for this in a training session at work...the instructor said "soon is not a time". Five minutes later I had the lyrics!

Feedback Requested

I use to some flats, flat sevens and sixes to create a bit of dissonance along the way...wondering whether it works effectively.

Chris,

I like the inspiration for this song. Soon is not a time, I think that is really cool. The flats don’t bother me in this song at all. Hope that helps!

There could be something to maybe speeding this up some. Especially the chorus.

Maybe try to get that feeling of anxiety in the song. That feeling of soon is not a time. Not that time is running out, but pushing that feeling of needing to start reacting.

Keep playing with this. It’s possible I could even see this being a duet focussing on his side and her side of the story.

Hope this helps.

Someday Soon

Written by JJ Pepper

Well I went and did it again after promising I never would
I don’t know what is wrong with me but I’d fix it I could
You tell me I need to change - you don’t deserve to be treated this way
I know that you’re exactly right and I’m lost in my own shame

Sometime it seems there’s a demon inside trying to rob me of what I hold dear
And I don’t know how to fight it and that fills my heart with fear
When it rears its ugly head and I see the trust I have once more ruined
I say I’m sorry and promise again that I’ll get it right someday soon

A thousand sorrys are just a thousand lies
Someday is not a number and soon is not a time

It’s not that I don’t love you, although I’m sure it might feel that way
Every time I try to do it better I start sinking under the weight
Sometimes I think I’m crazy all these self-destructive things I keep doing
I say I’m sorry and promise again that I’ll get it right someday soon

A thousand sorrys are just a thousand lies
Someday is not a number and soon is not a time

You deserve better we both know it true
So I’ll pack my bags and be on my way
And then in some kind of miracle you stop me
And tell me that you want me to stay

No more sorrys, and no more lies
I swear to God I’m gonna get it right this time
