About This Song

As a songwriter, it doesn't get any better than this ... getting to pay homage to the great R&B Torch Songs I grew up with. Enjoy!

A lovely ballad with a timeless quality both in the music and the lyric so I think it can easily be done in a variety of styles.

Nice, restrained production with a classic feel and what a great vocal! The most amazing thing for me is the way Ray sang a lyric pretty much in blank verse to a tune that is structured to take a pair of rhymes in a verse.

Lovely tune.

thank you jack for your feed back you’re so kind .. I love it too…Ray nailed it and to his credit, I wrote it lower and this is not an easy song to sing the way I wrote it… I hear it in my head and it’s killing it… but apparently the singer in my head sings better than what comes outta my mouth.. wink So he did a fine job.. I just think now I want that R&B percy sledge,  emoting kind of torch singer.. .. As a writer, I’m always open to the demo singer’s interpretation and Ray did a great job. I think it’s ok to have multiple facets to a diamond.. I love to see a song sparkle… smile

Love it! I’d love to hear Chris Stapleton sing this one. Right up his alley.
One line 3 I expected “You’re just too hard to figure out”
I like all the space in the song.

FYI, “ancient tones” is a term that Bill Monroe uttered to his then-guitarist Peter Rowan while they were writing “Walls of Time.” Listen to that original version by Monroe and you will understand what sound they were trying to get across. This has a great R&B vibe, totally dance-able with the one that you love.

THIS JUST AIN’T GONNA WORK OUT (male vocal) – lyric by elizabeth kurman c 2017 (male vocal)

THIS JUST AIN’T GONNA WORK OUT
I GOTTA GO, I’M SORRY GIRL
YOU’RE TOO HARD TO REACH
AND NO MATTER WHAT I SAY, IT ALWAYS TURNS OUT THIS WAY

SIT DOWN WHAT CAN I SAY TO YOU
G-D KNOWS I’VE TRIED TO LET YOU KNOW WHY I CAN’T STAY
IT’S NOT A SIMPLE THING WHEN THIS WORLD IS ALL YOU KNOW
BUT IF YOU’RE BOUND TO THIS PLACE

HEY I’M GONNA MISS YA’ GIRL
AH BUT I CAN’T STAY-
IT’S MY HEART AND SOUL THAT’S CRYIN’
AND THERE’S JUST NO WAY, HEAR ME WHEN I SAY

THIS JUST AIN’T GONNA WORK OUT!!
I GOTTA GO, I’M SORRY GIRL
YOU’RE TOO HARD TO REACH
AND NO MATTER WHAT I SAY, IT ALWAYS TURNS OUT THIS WAY
AND ALWAYS WILL….
