I wrote this one with Nathan Woodard. Feels appropriate for the days we're in.
Nice sounding song. I love that melody for that lift on the last line of the verse. Really nice transition to the chorus… I love the chorus melody. Very pretty and melodic… The only line that got me thinking was the “There’s a God who knows my name”. Not sure why, but I think it’s the “there’s a God”, as if there isn’t only one God. Not sure what I would change it to. Maybe something like “I know God, he knows my name” or “Because God, he knows my name”... Oh, and I know this is just a work tape, but if it were me, I’d try to sing the end of the word “forgotten” so that it sounds more like the end of “heaven”, so that “heav-ven” and “got-ten” are emphasized or accented the same way, so it sounds more rhyme-y, if that makes sense. Lol… Anyway, great song, and thanks for sharing it to show us all how the pros do it!

Between here and Heaven
There’s a lot of hurtin’
And I’ve been learning
Believers aren’t exempt
There’s a lot of questions
That go unanswered
And prayers that feel scattered
In the wind
So I’m leaning on those words in red
CHORUS:
Between here and Heaven
I’m not forgotten
There’s a God who knows my name
And He’s with me all the way
Between here and Heaven
I know He lived it / I know He gets it
He had flesh and He had bone
And He walked these winding roads
So I know I’ll never be alone
Between here and Heaven
Between here and Heaven
There’s still rough edges
That’ll never be perfected
Till I’m home
But there’s grace sufficient
Even when I’m weary
Just knowing that He’s with me
Gives me hope
He’s the strength I need to go on
CHORUS x 2

I love it overall, a moving piece. I know that you are great at internal rhymes, so perhaps the line “all the way” could be “all the same” so that it has that powerful hard rhyme with “name.” But truly moving overall, thanks for the opportunity to listen and comment.
