The story behind this track started at a train store back in 2006. The idea left the station by way of a songwriting challenge. My close friend and coworker said, "write a song about a train from a different point of view. I instantly thought of "Long Black Train" by Josh Turner. It's not an exact fit for Josh Turner but it was a fun write.

Memory Train
When I was growing up in West Virginia
I walked along these old railroad tracks
Looking for spikes and lumps of coal
On the weekends with my dad
I remember when he said son
This is what my grandpa told me
Right there in the palm of your hand
You're holding on to a little history
He said...
CHORUS
Can't you hear that whistle blowing
Can't you hear those wheels rolling
I hear them calling out our family name
Like a train of glory running proud
Going down the line of no doubt
Let's climb aboard this memory train
Today's there's a spike and a lump of coal
Cased in glass in my living room
My son asked me what it was once
And I told him it was a family heirloom
So I took my son for a walk
Along these old rails by our place
I told him what my daddy told me
And how we got that old display case
I said...
( REPEAT CHORUS )
Even though my grandpa's long gone
And my dad's hair is turning gray
We're still working hard in these coal mines
Near the tracks our grandfathers laid
Listen...
( REPEAT CHORUS )

Cool song! Seems very personal and hard to pitch, but I like the story.
