About This Song

This is simply an impressionistic instrumental track. After I recorded it and listened to it several times, I realized it really seemed to resonate with me. Hope you like it.

I don’t like it…..I LOVE it!  It resonates very well with me too and very impressionistic indeed.  I am a Debussy devotee from way back.  The chord changes are beautiful and the movement flows effortlessly Bob.  It’s so nice to hear this kind of instrumental….relaxing and yet very refreshing:)

WOW—Dori, thanks for the exceedingly kind words—I have liked the songs of yours that I have listened to so far. Yes, back when I was taking piano lessons, and studying classical music, I have played a number of pieces by Debussy, Alban Berg, and a number of other late 19th century and early 20th century composers—I guess (because, like all gifts/talents, I can’t really take credit for the fact that God has given me a really good ear) a lot of music of all sorts has ended up lodged in my brain. And I want to let you know once again that I think you are quite talented, and I have enjoyed what I have heard of yours so far—you’re one of the songwriters on here that are on my list to FURTHER check out. Thanks again!

Interesting, Bob.  Jazz is my favorite genre of music, but unfortunately, I cannot play it - only appreciate it.  I fell from a tree when I was 6 and broke my left wrist, causing some nerve damage.  As a result, I basically only have limited dexterity in my little finger and thumb on my left hand.  Bottom line, I recently attended a Chick Corea and totally enjoyed it, just as I did your chord progressions!  Thanks!

Jack, glad you liked it—sorry to hear about your nerve damage—and yes, have been a Chick Corea fan for many many years! I figure if I post enough variety (in songs of mine), sooner or later somebody may well be interested in co-writing. I am learning how much I’m enjoying songwriting now in my late 60’s—hopefully, it keeps me from DROOLING ON MYSELF—HA!!!

Jack Speer, your situation with limited flexibility in your little finger and thumb on left hand reminds me of an anecdote concerning an amazing piano player named Van Smith. In 1976, I was playing piano in a small pit band backing 10 singers/dancers doing shows of George Gershwin, Cole Porter, etc.—this was in the Eden Roc, a swanky resort beachfront hotel next to the Fountainebleu in Miami Beach (pretty upscale). We were playing in a 500 seat room, with a smaller “cabaret” type setting (with a trio) in the next room. The pianist in the next room (Van Smith) was the most amazing accompanist I had ever heard in a live setting—he could make HORRIBLE singers sound palatable, make DECENT singers sound good, and make GOOD singers sound like God’s angels. Every night, after we got through with our shows, I would go over where he was playing, and just listen to him. One night things were a little slow, and he and I got to talking—he told me that he had really bad arthritis and had absolutely no feeling in his last 3 fingers of his left hand.

Van had been pianist/musical director for Tony Bennett, Vic Damone, and LOTS of other world-famous singers/entertainers. I told him one night that I was going to see Tony Bennett do a show that weekend, and Van asked me to “say hi to Tony” for him. After Tony Bennett’s show, I went up, told Tony that “Van Smith said to say hi”—even though there were other people waiting to touch base with Tony Bennett, when I said that, Tony Bennett really brightened up and asked me (for a good 10 minutes) how Van Smith was, and what he was doing these days, etc.

The point of all this: I don’t care how limited your dexterity is in your left hand, Tony Bennett may think you’re an OUTSTANDING musician!  (See, there WAS a moral/punchline to all of this)!  smile
