I wrote this with the amazing Jenee Fleenor.
1) REALLY INTERESTING! (very singular) 2) Great imagery in the lyrics. 3) Music also interesting. 4) I like it (though I wonder if contemporary radio will “take to it”). 5) Seems like a perfect home for this song would be in a documentary about Appalachian life (music bed for a scene where a young lady walks through a mountain grove of trees next to her family’s hardscrabble farm.

I think the Dixie Chicks would do a fine job of this song! I was inspired to write some clever lyrics after hearing this, too, so thanks!!

Bluegrass is my thing, Brent! I can tell you with all confidence that this is the perfect contemporary bluegrass song! It has everything..the music..the rhythm, harmonies, imagery, catchiness..it’s all here!
This song was written for Sister Sadie, and I can see it as being their biggest, number one hit! Go for it! They just won Bluegrass Vocal Group of the Year at IBMA!

(by Brent Baxter and Jenee Fleenor)
Baby, I ain’t no catfish
Baby, I ain’t no rainbow trout
I ain’t no bass in the lake in the hot summertime
So baby don’t try to feed me no lines
Baby, I ain’t your worn out carpet
Baby, I ain’t your vinyl floor
I ain’t no hardwood creakin’ beneath your feet
So baby quit trying to walk on me
CHORUS:
I’m a hawk on the wind
A little rabbit slipping through your fence
I’m a squirrel jumping limb to limb
And you’re gonna look up, wonder where I went
And I’ll be every bit as gone as gone can get
Baby, you’re just a broken ladder
Baby, you’re just a hickory root
A patch of black ice out that old back door
But I ain’t falling for you no more
CHORUS: [REPEAT]
Say bye-bye to those cathead biscuits
Adios, jalapeno cornbread
And those hot cakes I’d make in the morning sun
You better quit trying to butter me up
CHORUS: [REPEAT]
Oh, gone can get
Oh, gone can get
Oh, every bit as gone, every bit as gone
Every bit as gone as gone can get
