I lived in the country for a bit and kept finding a lot of black widows, so many that one day I said to myself "Black widows like to hide down low" as I was bug-spraying yet another one - and the song was born.
Any and all feedback welcome!
That’s awesome advice, thanks Brent! I will put the thinking cap on and see if I can’t do that “less to more intimate”, definitely would be better that way!
Cheers also for giving a listen to some blues when it’s outside the usual
I don’t write many blues numbers, but they do come out now and then (I started learning guitar with blues, so it’s inevitably an influence to this day!)

Black widow likes to hide down low,
Black widow likes to hide down low,
If you reach down to that level I swear you'll meet the devil,
Black widow likes to hide down low.
You'll find one everywhere you go,
You'll find one everywhere you go,
In your bed and on the backseat, in the bars and walking the street,
You'll find one everywhere you go.
SOLO
Better watch where you put your hands,
Better watch where you put your hands,
You may not think she's frightening, but one touch and she'll be bitin,
Watch where you put your hands,
Don't be drawn in by those looks,
Don't be drawn in by those looks,
You may think she's striking, but that kiss boy it's like lightning,
Don't be drawn in by those looks.
SOLO
She'll leave you doubled over in pain,
She'll leave you doubled over in pain,
What she does it may not kill ya, you'll be wishin that it would yeah,
She'll leave you doubled over in pain.
Black widow likes to hide down low,
Black widow likes to hide down low,
If you reach down to that level I swear you'll meet the devil,
Black widow likes to hide down low,
Black widow likes to hide down low,
Black widow likes to hide down low.

Hi, Tommy! Welcome to Frettie, and thanks for sharing your music with us.
Blues aren’t my wheelhouse, but I like the title. I also like the angle you’ve taken with it. Love the double-meaning on “better watch where you put your hands.” Cool.
I like the examples “bed, backseat, bars, street” but I think I’d flip them to go from less intimate to more intimate:
You’ll find one wherever you go
You’l find one wherever you go
In the bar and walking the street,
In your bed and in the backseat
You’ll find one wherever you go
However, I think it would be even stronger if you can find a rhyme that takes you from bar to street to backseat to bed, almost like that’s how the night goes.
In the bars, on the street, backseat to satin sheets…
Something like that.
Overall, it’s pretty cool. Hope that helps. Please pay it forward by leaving a comment on another writer’s song. Doesn’t have to be in-depth or authoritative- just your thoughts. The best way to GET feedback is to GIVE feedback, after all! Thanks!
