Wrote the lyrics to this many years ago, and finally got around to putting them to music.
I believe this to be a hopeful tune and want it to convey a positive message despite the lyrics in the verses. Tried to alternate major and minor chord use to accentuate the seeming contradiction between the messages in the song. Not sure if that works well. Feedback on that or anything else would be appreciated.

There are times when life is lived within the shadows
Things are coming fast and don’t make sense
There are times when you fail at everything and
You’re reminded of the long odds you’re up against
There are times when all life’s luster disappears
You’re left feeling cold and all alone
There are times you can’t rely on the familiar
You stop believing in anything you’ve known
Well it’s hard to hold on when you’re waiting for dawn
And you’re desperate for the very first sign of light
But remember…just remember
You can only see the stars at night
There are times when it seems that no one loves you
In turn you lose the willingness to love
There are times when you feel totally abandoned
By everyone on earth and up above
Yes, there are times when each moment is a struggle
It’s exhausting just to make it through the day
And there are times when the storm just goes on raging
And it seems as though it will always be that way
Well it’s hard to hold on when you’re waiting for dawn
And you’re desperate for the very first sign of light
But remember…just remember
You can only see the stars at night
You’ve got to hold on
Just keep holding on
You’ve got to hold on
Just keep holding on
On…
On….
Yes it’s hardest to hold on when you’re closest to dawn
And you’re just about to give up on the fight
But remember…just remember
You can only see the stars at night
