Lyric sheet only. When I hear this in my head it is sand by a Jamey Johnson type singer voice and style wise. Oh to be so lucky...I know I know. When I write lyrics down sometimes they come to me with an artist in mind and this is one of those.

V1) All those old time antidotes,
all his lines I still quote,
his advice is never far from my mind.
Say your prayers
before ya go to bed,
say grace when breaking bread
It don't cost a thing to be kind.
Yea, I still use his advice whenever I can.
(Chorus) He'd say
if you ever find yourself in a bad spot,
steady yourself--let life take its best shot
Then give it back as good as you get
You might take a fall
You might be outmatched
But don't you dare turn your back
Remember what you learned about fighting Son
(Pause)
A bad stand is always better than a good run
There have been times in my life, especially after having kids and a wife
That I've tried real hard to be the bigger man
But sometimes life has stepped on my toes, pushed me down and bloodied my nose,
Then I'd hear my granddad's words in my head
(Repeat chorus)
So when life decides to squares up to you
Steady yourself and give its’ due
Always be ready for that sucker punch
Look life right in the eye, let it know this is gonna take a while
So you hope it remember to pack itself a lunch
(Repeat chorus)
