About This Song

A demo that's been sitting around for while. On nights when I can't fall asleep, my mind wanders. I hate that I'm wide awake, but sometimes I come up with some interesting ideas.

The 3rd of September,
No rain tonight, but a hailstorm
I lay awake in bed and listen to the windshields shatter
sirens scream in the distance
The neighbor’s dog howls
slumber, why do you elude me
Be the hunter, I’ll be your prey

Oh, for a simple life
Without worry
Free in my simple way
I’d close my eyes

So, it comes down to this…
Are all the bills paid? What have I missed?
In my cocoon of linen and fleece
I envy the giants of the past
The Colossus of Rhodes
Oh, how mighty you stood above your Grecian harborage
You never fretted about little things like earthquakes
Though maybe you should have

Oh, for a simple life
Without worry
Free in my simple way
I’d close my eyes

The 3rd of December,
No moon tonight, but a blizzard falls
My bedroom chamber shakes with the sound of snow plows making their lines
Branches crack, streetlights flicker
Cold gusts rattle the panes
And the words of a song I once heard as a child echo in my brain

Oh, for a simple life
Without worry
Free in my simple way
I’d close my eyes
My eyes
My eyes
