He's in denial that she's leaving him until it's too late
Any and all thoughts or criticisms appreciated
Paul, thank you so much for your kind words- and being “picky” is awesome actually. I love any criticism especially from songwriting brethren who appreciate how challenging it can be to write and produce. I’m looking forward to checking out your songs later today- thanks again man, Holden

For the Last Time
The morning came like any other day
sitting ‘round the table with coffee and eggs
passing her the sugar while she passed him the sports page
then they headed off to work, got bills to pay
he told her, hey I love you babe
then he kissed her and he watched her drive away
he waved as she drove away
But he couldn’t know he was kissing her for the last time
that the only girl he ever loved ain’t coming home
no he didn’t know he was kissing her for the last time
‘cause if he did he’d prove to her that his love is so strong
hopefully for the last time
She called him up at the end of the day
to meet for a drink at their usual place
he got their favorite booth, but she showed up an hour late
she hesitated by the door
so he met her halfway across the floor
he hugged her, but she tried to turn away
she turned away her face
And he couldn’t know he was holding her for the last time
that he’d never feel her body close, where she belongs
no he didn’t know he was holding her for the last time
‘cause if he did he’d prove to her that his love is so strong
hopefully for the last time
He drank and she talked but her words were strained
something about turning a page
something about how she needed some kind of change
he remembers saying, baby please
as she handed him her diamond ring and keys
and he thought she’ll change her mind in a couple of days
I thought for sure she’d come back home in a couple of days
But I couldn’t know I was seeing her for the last time
that I’d never look into her eyes that keep me hangin’ on
no I didn’t know I was seeing her for the last time
‘cause if I did I’d prove to her that my love is so strong
and there wouldn’t ever be a last time

Brave to have a changing chorus… great melody and solid demo… felt like maybe verse 3 should be a bridge… really good vocal (so much so that i think you can beat how you phrase “sports page” but im being picky cos its so very good)... all the best with it
