About This Song

This is a co-write with Mark Monument, his words [with only light massaging from me] and my music. I recorded this with my iPhone for the sake of posterity. Any lags in the delivery are due to me scrolling lyrics while playing.

Feedback Requested

Interested in pitching this one to TV. If you have any info on how to do that, I'd love to hear about it!

Also, any other feedback is appreciated.

Hey Dave, I like the feel of the song, I really like the line “or a roll in some night maiden’s bed”

good job, good luck with it.

Thanks Joel!  That line, and most of the lines, are courtesy of my co-writer, Mark Monument.  I’m glad you line that line, it’s one of my favourites!  I’m hoping to get into a studio soon and get a decent demo made, but the iPhone recording needed to be shared, we just liked it too much!  Hoping to pitch it soon, as well (after the demo is done…)

Great flow on this. Reminds me of Cab Calloway. Minnie the Moocher. Has that great feel to the music and lyrics.

Thanks for the kind words, any time I can be in the same SENTENCE as Cab Calloway, I’ll take it! smile

The Devil Is My Wingman

Written by Dave Grandel

Verse 1:
Just like a cat chasing raindrops on a window
Changing his mind with each new one that falls
I was fickle, at best, when I met you
But I vowed I could change when you called

So, for a while we were violently happy
And my eyes belonged only to you
Oh, but this devil inside me is a strong one
Eventually (pause) his words (pause) made it through

Chorus:
He said, “Listen to me I’m your wingman
And you’re not built for a domesticated life
So make peace with yourself, and pack up a bag
‘Cos we leave on the last train tonight.”

Verse 2:
Well, I left in hurry that evening
With my heart in an overnight bag
Said goodbye to our love that was growing
And all of the good times we’d had

It’ll take more than strong whiskey to fix this
Or a roll in some night maiden’s bed
Rather than licking my wounds in a pour house
I should be at home loving you right instead

Modified Chorus:
Oh, the devil himself is my wingman
He’s collecting on the debts that he’s owed
I shouldn’t have sold him my soul at the cross in the road
Now I’m reaping the seeds that I sowed

Bridge:
And so I live and I learn, and I crash and I burn
At least three of those statements are true
‘Cos if learned anything from my past life
Well, I’d still be at home next to you

Modified Chorus:
Oh, the devil himself is my wingman
He’s collecting on the debts that he’s owed
I shouldn’t have sold him my soul at the cross in the road
Now I’m reaping the seeds that I sowed

Yeah, I’m reaping the seeds that I sowed...
