I wrote this early on, when I was writing a lot of music but didn't yet have the nerve to perform in front of a bunch of strangers.

I live a planned and perfect life
2 kids, a dog and loving wife
But there’s a part of me
That no one ever sees
I like to dress up as a clown
I wait ‘til everyone’s away
The basement becomes my secret stage
Magic tricks and pantomime
Juggling balls in perfect time
Whenever I dress up as a clown
In my little hideaway beneath the stairs
No, you won’t see me in the circus
Acting the fool for your applause
I’m much too show and too self-conscious
But on my stage, I’m all the rage
I go to work from 9 to 5
And watch my spirit slowly die
But in my magic space
Of big shoes and painted face
I come alive when I’m a clown
Whenever I’m a clown
When I play the clown
When I play the clown

I like this little song Jeff. It’s sort of dark, but I really dig it!
