About This Song

The singer is so crazy about his wife that he can't do enough for her.

imho, the lyrics and the music are at odds with each other. Lyrically the song is about an important personal relationship, but musically the song is almost “flippant”—I noticed that I kept waiting for a sarcastic tone to creep in, because the singer is trying to say that the WIFE is the one keeping score. [simply my impression/observation). Best wishes musically.

I’m Not Keeping Score

Written by Richard Kirk

I’M NOT KEEPING SCORE
I took out the trash, in the pouring rain
Changed that tire as we were coming home last night on the interstate
Mowed the yard, fixed the gutter, put on your guitar strings
I did all that ‘cause I love you, you’re my everything
You say what you do for me’s only half what I do for you
But if you know me at all, you know this much is true
I’M NOT KEEPING SCORE
I easily remember what my life was like before
Don’t you ever worry about trying to do more
I’M NOT KEEPING SCORE
It’s not like I don’t realize all the things you do for me
You’re there when I need you, you’re the best company
Get our girls to school on time, then do your day care job at church
Money cannot measure everything you’re worth
You’re my shoulder to lean on, the light that guides my way
Just how much I need you, words can hardly say
CH
I don’t care to keep track of what we do for each other
All that matters is we know we’re best friends and lovers
