This is a true story about a humble man who lived his life exemplifying "You can always find someone that's got it worse, help 'em if you can."
Marvin, a nice set of lyrics which tells a sweet story—one thing I noticed (may not be an issue for anyone else)—I was sort of hoping that the bridge (“Three weeks passed, I went back…”) would musically build more (be sort of a musical “high point”). Anyway, one more nice set of lyrics—you seem to excel at turning out strong lyrics! Best wishes for all your songs!

fwiw, I have thought several times that if you could do some co-writing with someone who is as strong “musically” as you are strong “lyrically”—that seems like it might well be a fruitful venture!!!

At the Eventide Convalescent Center - every third Saturday
Dad and I would go eat dinner - with aunt Opal who was eighty-eight
I was pickin’ at my food when an old black man - sat down at the table by me
He looked me in the eye and said, “How do you do, - my name’s Cushinberry.”
Said I was born in an all black town in Kansas - called Nickodemus
In World War II was an Army medic - then settled in Topeka
I was fortunate to have a good momma and dad - who taught me all about God’s grace
The same way son that yours have - or you wouldn’t be here today

God put us on this earth - to help our fellow man
If you go out of your way to help somebody - you’re returned the favor
Cause the time we spends just payin’ rent - for God’s little half acre
He said for years I gave away food and cloths – had a Christian Mission store
Had a sign that read “for the needy, not the greedy” - that hung above the door
I like to think I gave hope and dreams - to folks who didn’t have any
But son I saw things that just shouldn’t be - here in the land of plenty

God put us on this earth - to help our fellow man
