About This Song

Frustrated and annoyed by some online comments directed at how abused wives "should just leave" I wrote this song about how it is easier said than done. Needs a female singer, but haven't arranged for that to happen yet, so just me singing for now.

Any and all feedback welcome!

I really like the melody and guitar work on this one. tough subject to tackle. nice song.

Thanks Chad! Always a worry with a subject like this that it isn’t done a disservice or “cheapened” in any way. TY also for the feedback on the musical side of it, glad you liked it smile

Different This Time

Written by Tommy Grimes III

Sitting crying by the road side
Waiting for my friend to come
Climbed inside when she pulled over
Without a word we drove off

The silence unbroken
With not a word spoken
'til she looked at me shook her head and said

Did you think it would be different this time?
Did you think that he would love you forever?
That there'd be no more cryin'
No cheatin', no lying
Did you think it would be different this time?

I tried to think of some good answers
Drying tears from my red eyes
I'd fell again for his romances
But found him just the same inside

'til my friend spoke once more
Her voice drippin' with scorn
I felt her foot press harder on the gas

Did you think it would be different this time?
Did you think that he would love you forever?
That there'd be no more fightin'
No yellin', fists flyin',
Did you think it would be different this time?

SOLO

Could I say I thought I'd save him?
That my true love would turn him round?
Or the time alone might change him?
Made him see just what he'd found?

That my prayers would be heard?
Our outcomes reversed?
But instead I raised my head with tattered pride

Yes I thought it would be different this time
Yes I thought he might love me forever,
I had to try as his wife
To patch up our lives
In the hope it would be different this time
Lord forgive, it was no different this time
But hear me now, there won't be no next time
