About This Song

I wrote this song with Shelley Skidmore and Brandy Clark. That's Shelley singing the demo.

I really like this!  Cool tag to hook… “or is it just me”.  When the first Ch hit, I was thinking the “her” in the song did him wrong.. then by the next CH I realized he was stuck on this other person as in an affair.  Would love to know how it was writing with Brandy Clark.  I absolutely love her!!!

Hi Brent > Cool song! great vocal.I like how it develops. Full of decscriptive lyrics. keeps you waiting for the next line in the story. In my humble opinion I’d say in the chorus instead: ” The one that’s closin’ your heart n’ temptin’ your soul “

I really like how coming out of the bridge into the final chorus puts that twist on the song. Cool song!

Great Song! I love the ambivalence in it - that’s life.

VERY solid!!!  I’ll be surprised if someone doesn’t record this, and have at least somewhat of a hit with it—ESPECIALLY like the line “If there’s someone else, at least there’s someone else to blame”

(Brent Baxter, Shelley Skidmore, Brandy Clark)

Is that her, there on the street
With the long thin legs, boots to her knees
Walking out of a sidewalk store with something I’d never wear
Or is that her, in that café
Laughing on the phone, blush on her face
Talking to someone she loves, someone she’s meeting somewhere
Everywhere I turn
Is that her

CHORUS:
The one that’s turning you cold
The one that’s closing your heart and hiding your soul
The one that makes you hold me like you’re gonna leave
Is that her, or is it just me

Is that her, there in your eyes
In that faraway look that you get sometimes
Is she that call you don’t pick up, the one you just let ring
And is that her, on your lips
In your “I love you, too” and passionless kiss
That something in your voice when you say “it ain’t anything”
All of this damn hurt
Is that her

CHORUS

If there’s someone else, at least there’s someone else to blame
And that’s what I need
‘Cuz if it ain’t her, then maybe, maybe it’s just me

CHORUS:
The one that’s turning you cold
The one that’s closing your heart and hiding your soul
The one that makes you hold me like you’re gonna leave
Is that her, is that her
Tell me it’s her
