This is a song about the arrogance of youth and regretting it later in life. The singer is a friend from Dayton, Nick Cardillino, We recorded this a while ago when I didn't have enough confidence to sing my own songs. (I should redo it with my voice.

Say Goodbye & Walk Away
Summer afternoon, taking lunch upon the square
Something I do most sunny days
Thought I recognized her standing over there
Just about the time she felt my gaze
Almost forgotten that time I made her cry
Such a sad and lonely sound
Tried to convince her it was best for both of us
Not to get ourselves tied down
(chorus 1)
Just say goodbye
And walk away
Don’t make her cry
Something I’d say
Don’t have the right
Just say goodbye & walk away
Little girl in tow, she approached me with a smile
How are ya doing, ‘member me?
Embarrassed after all these years, I said: it’s been awhile
How old’s this little lady, looks like three
She talked about her husband, her children, and her job
Talked about a life that sounded fine
As I stood and watched her, the thought occurred to me
She’d moved on and left me far behind
(Chorus 2)
She said goodbye
And walked away
Just have to sigh
what can I say
I lost the right
Just say goodbye and walk away
(bridge)
I recognize this twist of fate
The table’s turned she’s doing great
I’m the one who’s feeling low
As my ego tries to take the blow
Finished off my sandwich sitting there beneath a tree
I marveled at the hubris of my youth
What a prize I must have been, I clearly didn’t see
She’s the only one who saw the truth
(Repeat Chorus 2)

I seem to feel a conflict between, “Almost forgotten that time I made her cry” in verse 1 and, “Don’t make her cry” in chorus 1. This could be resolved by changing chorus 1 to, “I said goodbye, and walked away…......”. That change would work well with the 2nd chorus, “She said goodbye”. I love the vocal harmonies. The only bad thing about this song is that I didn’t write it.
