Different
by Dave Undis and Michael Skotte
VERSE
I know a nurse with purple hair.
She and her mom did it on a dare.
Next week she’s gonna dye it blue.
She’s gonna do her boyfriend too.
He’s an accountant nine to five.
He thinks Elvis is still alive.
They’re pretty different, but it’s all cool.
You and I are different too.
CHORUS
We’re all different. That don’t need fixing.
We’re just out there doing our own thing.
We’re all different, and we’re coexisting.
Everybody’s chasing their own dream.
VERSE
Janie likes girls. Johnny likes guys.
They both like each other on the side.
Fred says God is a trinity.
Frank says that’s a fantasy.
Debbie loves dogs. Donna loves cats.
Bobby likes jazz. Barry likes rap.
Randy is black. Ronnie is white.
Everyone’s different and that’s alright.
CHORUS
We’re all different. That don’t need fixing.
We’re just out there doing our own thing.
We’re all different, and we’re coexisting.
Everybody’s chasing their own dream.
BRIDGE
Different isn’t wrong.
We can all get along.
If we were all the same
We’d all go insane.
CHORUS
We’re all different. That don’t need fixing.
We’re just out there doing our own thing.
We’re all different, and we’re coexisting.
Everybody’s chasing their own dream.
Everybody’s chasing their own dream.
Everybody’s chasing their own dream.

Dave,
I really like this song and the idea it expresses. But I had a problem with the “we’re coexisting” line. To me, that implies that we are tolerating each other. But I think you were expressing the idea of difference giving life color, flavor, and interest. Thus, in my opinion, using “coexisting” kind of contradicts your theme. Possibly I’m making too fine a point, but that’s how it struck me.
Good song.
