On The 8th Day God Created Bluegrass
by Dave Undis
VERSE
God created the heavens and the earth, and he saw that it was good.
On the seventh day he rested, and threw a party for the neighborhood.
The heavenly host blew their trumpets, the choir of angels sang.
As he listened God couldn’t help but think they sure could use a little twang.
CHORUS
On the 8th day God created bluegrass. It’s some of his very best work.
It’s the finest kind of music anyone’s ever heard.
Six days to make the whole universe, one day to add that sound.
On the 8th day God created bluegrass. It’s the sweetest sound around.
VERSE
God took apart one of the pearly gates, and he made the first guitar.
He made a mandolin and a Dobro from the heart of a shooting star.
He used lightning to fashion a fiddle, and thunder to build a bass.
He turned some halos into a banjo, sat down and started picking away.
CHORUS
On the 8th day God created bluegrass. It’s some of his very best work.
It’s the finest kind of music anyone’s ever heard.
Six days to make the whole universe, one day to add that sound.
On the 8th day God created bluegrass. It’s the sweetest sound around.
BRIDGE
Satan wouldn’t play along
So he was banished down below.
As he left, he said you’ll be hearing from me.
I’m inventing rock and roll.
CHORUS
On the 8th day God created bluegrass. It’s some of his very best work.
It’s the finest kind of music anyone’s ever heard.
Six days to make the whole universe, one day to add that sound.
On the 8th day God created bluegrass. It’s the sweetest sound around.
