About This Song

I wrote Graveyard of a Fool inspired by my father's regret after my mother passed away, and a beautiful old church I saw in the Carolinas. Something about that church, with its history and quiet beauty, made me think about love, loss, and all the things we wish we could go back and change.

The song is about the weight of regret and the painful realization that sometimes we don't fully appreciate what we have until it's gone. It's about the words left unsaid, the moments we can't get back, and the love that remains long after someone has passed.

For me, Graveyard of a Fool is a reminder that life doesn't always give us a second chance to make things right. Sometimes all we're left with are memories and the lessons we learned too late.

Graveyard Of A Fool

Written by Jodie (Jowie) B

[verse 1]

Up those blue steps at the old church,
doors open wide,
Sunset sky through windowpanes,
There you sit in your usual pew,
eyes fixed on the light,
Oh, baby you're the most beautiful view, if I could have you back for one more night

[verse 2]

Oh, the sight of you took my breath,
as I walked the lonely aisle,
The dam gave way,
memories came like rivers running wild,
Oh, there's no curse haunting a man,
Greater than regret

[chorus]

Oh, the nights spent with you, how I thought they'd last,
But mistakes I made, cost me a heart, left in the dark,
Treated you cruel, broke all the rules,
buried our love in, the graveyard of a fool

[verse 3]

It was us in that old church pew,
laughing like we used to do,
watching your green eyes glow,
Smile wide as a country mile,
oh, please don't let the memory fade,
take me back to yesterdays,
when love was too young to end,
when your heart was mine back then

[chorus]

Oh, the nights spent with you, how I thought they'd last,
but mistakes I made, cost me a heart, left in the dark,
Treated you cruel, broke all the rules,
Buried our love in, the graveyard of a fool

[verse 4]

I left you alone, craving freedom,
but the farther I roamed,
only led me down dead-end roads,
found myself left with the heartache of home,
Oh, you were always where I, belonged

[chorus]

Oh, the nights spent with you, how I thought they'd last,
but mistakes I made, cost me a heart, left in the dark,
Treated you cruel, broke all the rules,
Buried our love in, the graveyard of a fool

[bridge]

The thoughts fade away,
crashing waves to this present day,
I quit drifting, too little, too late,
only ghosts remain in church today,
you've taken your love away,
to the sweet by-and-by,
a heart that used to be mine, gone now for all of time

[outro]

And today, I'll bury my love in a graveyard of a fool, oh, oh, my heart will forever lie, mm, in the graveyard of fools
