About This Song

It's a true story about my Grandpa and his beloved Model A dump truck. When I was in Texas I sat down with Bernie Nelson at a burger joint. I told him this story and we decided it needed to be put to song. So we sat down and wrote this.

This is a great song! Love the sentiment and makes me feel like he could be my grandpa.

Perfect music for this! Sounds like me of those old trucker songs. Also sounds like Branson Missouri music.

Grandpa drove a Model A

Written by Michael Gibbs

[Verse 1]
Grandpa drove a Model A, it was a 1930-something
Had a hand-crank or electric start, but I liked to push the button
It was an old farm truck, Grandpa bought back in 1963
That's the year that my dad was born and the year they killed Kennedy

[Verse 2]
Yeah, Grandpa drove that Model A, had a one headlight missing
He'd haul us kids around and then sometimes he'd take us fishing
That factory green was about wore off, had rust there on the fenders
He'd drive it around in his old worn cap, blue jeans and suspenders
Come on now!

[Verse 3]
I got pretty handy fixing things after eight years in the Seabees
So I helped him tear that engine down and restore that thing completely
One of my favorite memories was the day he let me drive
Old Grandpa drove that Model A until the day he died

[Verse 4]
You know I can still see Grandpa, he's lying there in that old cap and suspenders
All dressed up to go away that cold day in November
But he always said, "The day I die, load me like a bale of hay
And let me have this one last ride in my old Model A"
Sing it with me!

[Repete V1]
Oh, Grandpa drove a Model A, it was a 1930-something
Had a hand-crank or electric start, but I liked to push the button
It was an old farm truck, Grandpa bought back in 1963
That's the year that my dad was born and the year they killed Kennedy
