About This Song

This is one I wrote many years ago after my first heartbreak. It is supposed to feel like an evolution of sorts. I wanted it to be a two-step someone could dance to easily.

It feels too redundant to me, but I like the idea still.

Stuck In a Memory

Stuck in a Memory

© Chris Joy — 10/12/05

Verse 1
He doesn’t know she knows the truth,
Because she doesn’t ask him why.
Somehow she thinks the hell she’s living
Is better than goodbye.

So she goes on quietly with her day to day,
And ignores the hole in her heart.
She holds on to her memories
As her world falls apart.

Chorus
She’s stuck in a memory,
Stuck between love and lost.
But if you ask her, she’ll tell you
It was worth the cost.
So she ignores the rumors,
But at night she prays,
’Cause she knows in her heart he’ll leave her—
She just wants one more day.

Verse 2
She’s stuck in a memory,
Stuck between what is and what could have been.
But if you ask her if she could go back,
She’d do it all again.

Then that day comes when he finally walks away,
He won’t look back; she can’t let go.
He will never know her pain.
He never really knew her anyway.

Verse 3
Now she’s stuck in a heartbreak,
Stuck between here and gone.
If you ask her what she’s doing now,
Oh, she just can't move on.

Bridge
Time passes so slowly,
But she gets stronger every day.
She knows in her heart, when she sees him again,
She’ll be able to say

Now I'm no longer stuck in a heartbreak,
He’ s just a fond memory.
And even though i keep him in my heart,
I am finally free

Oh I am finally free
