I wrote this song almost 40 years ago, when ballads were still in fashion. It has stuck in a couple of peoples' minds besides mine and I recently re-recorded it for a possible sync placement. The song was written during a major life change for me and I was surprised at how quickly I was drawn into the emotion of that time in my life. So, though it strikes me as somewhat clunky by today's standards, maybe there is something there.

A Slow and Steady Rain
(verse)
You've washed the supper dishes and you turned the TV on
There's a cold November shower falling outside on our lawn
You're curled up on the sofa. I'm reading in my chair
I feel a heartache coming on I don't think I can bear
(chorus)
It's just a Slow and Steady Rain, its not what you'd call a storm
With all the years we've shared you'd think I'd feel safe and warm
After all, we've built this love of ours on solid ground
But in time a Slow and Steady Rain can wear a mountain down
(verse)
I don't see the angry lightening, I don't hear the bitter wind
But you seldom say you love me and your tears fall now and then
You don't want to talk about it, you say there's nothing wrong
But I haven't seen the sunshine in your smile for (so damned or oh so) long
(chorus)
It's just a Slow and Steady Rain, its not what you'd call a storm
With all the years we've shared you'd think I'd feel safe and warm
After all, we've built this love of ours on solid ground
But in time a Slow and Steady Rain can wear a mountain down
(verse)
Now the light's off in the hallway as we go upstairs to bed
You kiss me and I wonder, "Is this heartache in my head?"
I watch you as you're dreaming as I try to sleep, in vain
And listen to the teardrops fall against our window pane
(chorus)
It's just a Slow and Steady Rain, its not what you'd call a storm
With all the years we've shared you'd think I'd feel safe and warm
After all, we've built this love of ours on solid ground
But in time a Slow and Steady Rain can wear a mountain down
