Nights in the Desert

Written by Jeff Straw

Lines of contrition painted on your face.
Guise of a smile... do you have no shame?
Noise pollution deafens though your voice wields only breath:
Deceitful transgressions and carelessness.

Run.
You're wounded.
Rabid.
Find a new home.
Hide.
You're damaged.
Savage.
Fit to die alone.

World's not safe for strangers - quit your hitchhiking.
Talking on your telephone of tin can and string.
As your conversations falter, you can feel your knees growing weak.
Connections all short circuit from blind disease.

Run.
You're wounded.
Rabid.
Find a new home.
Hide.
You're damaged.
Savage.
Fit to die alone.
As your soul levitates toward the sky,
Your inevitable descent is of your own device.

No happy ending for this fabled tale.
Heart for the mending - much to no avail.
Does your world outside slowly wither?
All your trees dissolve to dust?
Nights in the desert alone with selfish love.
