About This Song

Hard Cider is about prevailing love in the ups and downs. This version is a bit more polished than some of the stuff I'll upload here because it's off an album. My nephews and niece play the strings, and my sister sings with me, so it's sort of a family project.I hope you all enjoy!

Well, here’s what I’ve taken from this: the trouble with producing a song as beautiful as this is you set the bar really high for yourself. I love the juxtaposition of classical and Americana; what a cool sound! Great vocals vocals, too. The story was nice and made me smile. Often, I tend of roll my eyes at simple “love stories”, but this is a good lesson in sincerity. The two people in the song felt really believable and honest to me.

The other thing I took from this is I gotta get me some string players.

Thanks Jeff.  Yep, strings really help.  I’m glad to have some talented kin willing to jump in and play!

Oh my gosh - I love this. I would never have thought that a song with only 5 verses could be so effective. (Although, I guess the strings serve pretty well as a chorus.) I love the strings. I love the harmony. I love the energy. And I love how you rachet it all down to just guitar in the last verse. All very cool.

Jeff is right about setting the bar really high. I hope to hear much more of this since it is a pretty rare sound you got here. A really good convergence of sound and lyric.

Darling they may say we live in squalor they may think we're doin' bad
But if we had a thousand dollars it wouldn't change the love you know we have dear

And there've been times that I've had money and you've had days of having fun
But when we didn't have each other we didn't care for either one dear

And when the sun beats down we drink our cider we drink it hard, we drink it cold
And when the storms move in we get real close there's someone there to love and hold dear

A man once said"love is where it's at" and it's the only thing worth being heard
Well love is all we've got love it is the final word dear

So when you lay me in my grave just know I died a happy man There was someone with me to the end someone who could understand dear
