About This Song

This is a rather sad song about someone finding love, but then having that person succumb to addiction. Since I started song writing, a lot of the song narratives I find myself writing about are focused on finding (or losing) love. Like many people these days, I've had a number of family members and friends suffer with mental health / addiction issues. For this song, I tried to use some of my personal experiences to try to capture what it would be like find the "one" but then have that person go through these challenges.

Hey William,
Sad song but a good song. Nice build lyrically and musically to the Chorus.  Aaah, so true about putting on a show.  The arrangement is solid but the song could use a Bridge to paint a more graphic picture about the addiction.  The song is sad because it leaves you thinking the battle will be lost ... Some say it needs to be positive spin but it’s important to tell the story with the scars, blemishes and loss, too.  The 2nd verse is the strongest of the song in my opinion. My favorite line is “A lot of friends, but they don’t see it
You laugh you smile, now watch you go
And I really wish I could believe it
But you always could put on a show.” Thanks for sharing the story.

Thanks, Uncle Brent

Fade Away (2021)

Written by William Delano

Don’t say that you need it
go and give life another try
Cause I know how your feeling
When giving love is harder than goodbye

And I’ll pretend that you don’t mean it
I’ll pretend that I don’t mind
And if you really need a reason
Well I just need you by my side

[chorus]
They say its time to turn it around
You Light the match, gonna burn it down
Cause it don’t matter what they say
No time for change, gonna fade away

Gonna fade away, gonna fall into
Nothin but that mirror looking back at you
Cause it don’t matter what they say
No time for change, gonna fade away

A lot of friends, but they don’t see it
You laugh you smile, now watch you go
And I really wish I could believe it
But you always could put on a show

And you’ll pretend that you’ll leave it
You’ll pretend your doing fine
But right now, honey, I really need you
So this problem that’s yours is a problem that’s mine

[chorus]
They say its time to turn it around
You Light the match, gonna burn it down
Cause it don’t matter what they say
No time for change, gonna fade away

Gonna fade away, gonna fall into
Nothin but that mirror looking back at you
Cause it don’t matter what they say
No time for change, gonna fade away
