About This Song

I wrote this song several years ago as a humorous take on the traditional Honey-Do List, but featuring things definitely not to do. I recently rewrote some of the lyrics, and used SUNO to improve my guitar/vocal demo. Thanks for listening

Hi, This is a cute title and song!

What I would suggest would be to change one word in line two of verse one:

“Hanging from it on a faded piece of paper”

to

“Hanging from it is a faded piece of paper”

And I think it would help to change the rhyme scheme in verse two to be the same as in verse one:  A A B B.

Hope that input was helpful.

Best of luck word puzzling!

Uncle Brent ...

Hi Alan,
Nice song!  The only comment would be the song may flow better if the syllables were the same for each line.  Below is a rough example ... I used 11 syllables in each line but it can more or less with some tweaking.

Don’t leave the cap off the toothpaste when I brush
Don’t forget to buy flowers just because
Don’t call and say that I’m working working late
When I’m with the boys in a poker game
Don’t stop for a drink without a ride back home
On Friday nights, don’t ever leave her alone
Don’t ever talk about the girls I’ve kissed
Well, just add that to my honey don’t-do list

My favorite lines are:
—- Don’t ever call to say I’ll be working late
—- When I’m sitting at the poker game
—- Don’t stop for drinks at the bar without a ride home

Thanks,
Uncle Brent

Allen I think this is fantastic. When you can find a well known phrase and put a twist on it , it is magical. Well done!

Honey Don’t-Do List

Written by Allan Rosensweig

Hanging from a magnet on our refrigerator
My Honey Do list on a faded piece of paper
Everything I promised her that I'd get done
She just smiles though I aint started even one

But in my brain she left me a list that's growing long
Little reminders what I've been doing wrong
I try my best but sometimes it's tough
And I forget what I should be crossing off

Don't drive your baby to Bass Pro and call that a date
Don’t forget them roses aint just for her birthday
Don't ever call and tell her you’re working late
When you’re sitting at the poker game
Don't stop for drinks at the bar and try driving home
On Friday night don't leave her all alone
Don't ever talk about other girls you’ve kissed
That’s just a couple lines from my honey don't-do list

I might never get to cleaning that garage out
Patching the roof where the rain's dripping down
That squeaky screen door might never get fixed
But I promise I’ll keep working on my Don’t Do List

Don't drive your baby to Bass Pro and call that a date
Don’t forget them roses aint just for her birthday
Don't ever call and tell her you’re working late
When you’re sitting at the poker game
Don't stop for drinks at the bar and try driving home
On Friday night don't leave her all alone
Don't ever talk about other girls you’ve kissed
That’s just a couple lines from my honey don't-do list

Don't drive your baby to Bass Pro and call that a date
Don’t forget them roses aint just for her birthday
Don't ever call and tell her you’re working late
When you’re sitting at the poker game
Don't stop for drinks at the bar and try driving home
On Friday night don't leave her all alone
Don't ever talk about other girls you’ve kissed
That’s just a couple lines from my Honey Don’t Do List
Now I'm sure she'll remind me if there's something I missed
And I'll just add that to my honey don't-do list
