About This Song

This song is about the "if it's meant to be, it'll work out" mindset and about using that as an excuse to not grow, change, or work on relationships.

Above you, above the trees
Casting its light down on you and me
They called for rain, but it is dry
Here below the broken sky

We threw words out there we can't take back
And I walked away, down my own path
And I promised you, it could have been right
If only we weren't under the broken sky

Curse fate, it doesn't care
Bound by what is shown up there
You can't argue or try to fight
When you find yourself under a broken sky

So I chose to walk off free
Because I have the choice when it suits me
What's out of our control is a matter of pride
So we can work or place blame on the broken sky

I've got my own ladder and can climb up there
And with the greatest of orchestrated care
I hammer it apart in the right place
It's not because of you or I, it's fate
I'm sorry for the way it worked out, it was fate

And I find myself alone when you're long gone
Sure of being unsure, right about being wrong
And at this point, don't know if I can try
So I'm the coward standing alone under his broken sky

Curse fate, it doesn't care
Bound by what is shown up there
You can't argue or try to fight
When you find yourself under a broken sky
And you've forgotten what it feels like to look up and see
an unbroken sky
