Benny Strings by Jane Shiekd & Paul deMarco © 2018
In the station by the exit sign
There’s a man who whiles away the time
Playing tunes while the children dance and sing
He sings his songs about the war
And all the times he knew before
And everybody calls him Benny Strings
Oh Benny wont you sing your song
Sing it loud and sing it strong
Make the people laugh and dance and sing
Now in his chair he sits and plays
And sings about his glory days
That one man band that they call Benny Strings
Some say back in ‘44
He crossed the seas to foreign shores
For honour and his country he would fight
But as he stepped upon the sand
Of Dunkirk, fate was close at hand
A German shell had taken Billy’s sight
So then they sent the injured home
To face their nightmares on their own
But Benny wouldn’t let his blindness win
He took his guitar in his hand
And called himself a one man band
And introduced the world to Benny Strings
Oh Benny wont you sing your song
Sing it loud and sing it strong
Make the people laugh and dance and sing
Now in his chair he sits and plays
And sings about his glory days
That one man band that they call Benny Strings
Now next time you are passing by
In the station by the exit sign
Notice how the people dance and sing
His guitar plays a happy sound
And all the children gather round
That one man band that they call Benny Strings
Oh Benny wont you sing your song
Sing it loud and sing it strong
Make the people laugh and dance and sing
Now in his chair he sits and plays
And sings about his glory days
That one man band that they call Benny Strings

Paul, I loved this is right up my street, I read the lyrics and felt they were really descriptive especially the 2nd verse. It really painted a picture of what it was about. I would love to hear it played with full band, I think that would be cool.
