I wrote this with Kenna West and Jason Cox. By the way, Kenna was a guest on "Know The Row," and the video replay of our great Q&A is in the Member Area. If you're a subscriber, check it out. She's awesome!
Great song idea and message. A couple of critical thoughts…Would love to hear this with a different melody, vocal, and arrangement. Feels a little outdated, like the 90’s maybe. Maybe there are cut opportunities in this genre still so maybe that’s what you were shooting for. That’s just my taste.
Second verse has a tense change at the end from past to present and that threw me a little bit.
For the Prechorus I would love to hear something in the place of “there’s a lesson for your and me”. It feels kind of preachy.
I LOVE the lines “day one day two day three! Love the way that ties in both choruses! Really cool spot in the lyric.
Gotta run but great tune!

Great message, very uplifting and inspiring. I really like the set up line to the chorus. Day one, day two and day three and how the chorus gave a new meaning to that line after the second verse. Simply to the point with no hidden messages of how patience and prayer can lead to the fulfillment of His promises.
The whole song reminds me of something the band Petra would have had on their albums. John Schlitt is still making music after all these years.

Hi, James! I guess I should have stated our target for this song when I posted it. We are aiming squarely for a Southern Gospel group cut with this one. A quartet or something like that. To be honest, I’m not an expert on that world, and I’m trusting my cowriters, who have a good deal of success in that world, that this is spot-on for who they have in mind as an artist. It’s definitely not meant for CCM radio. Yes, it wouldn’t be appropriate for that. No need to pitch this one to Lauren Daigle, Toby Mac or For King & Country!

In the town of Bethany
Laz’rus was growin’ weak
The doctors did all that could be done
Mary and Martha cried
There by their brother’s side
They sent for Jesus, but He hadn’t come
Oh, there’s a lesson for you and me
Day one, day two, day three
CHORUS:
Pray while you wait
He’s an on-time God and He’s never late
Pray while you wait
‘Cuz the Lord will surely make a way
When it looks impossible
Pray while you wait
On the cross of Calvary
Hanging between two thieves
They watched Him suffer, and they saw Him die
They laid Him in the grave
A stone was rolled in place
With Jesus buried, there’s no hope in sight
But there’s a lesson for you and me
Day one, day two, day three
CHORUS
If He’s stronger than the grave
If He’s strong enough to save
Then go ahead and start to praise
‘Cuz if His word can raise the dead
Child, it’s not over yet
Just call, call upon His name... and
CHORUS 2x
