I wrote this song with guitar monster, Kenny Greenberg, and this is the demo. If it sounds familiar, it's because it's the into/outro song to my podcast (with Johnny D) called The C.L.I.M.B. (Creating Leverage In The Music Business). You can listen to the show at www.theclimbshow.com or on iTunes or Sticher. Enjoy!
HI, Brent. I love this song! The verse sets up the chorus really nicely, yet the chorus is a really cool surprise. This belongs on an album, IMHO. Such a great concept executed perfectly.

Curious Brent… out of all the songs you’ve written, how many have you done where the chorus changes?

Hey, Phillip. Man… I don’t know. Not very many- especially these days. Very, very few over the last several years where the lyric will change as much as in this song.

(Brent Baxter, Kenny Greenberg)
1927, Bristol, Tennessee
Jimmie Rodgers and The Carter Family
Hank Williams walking on the Opry stage
A rhinestone angel on that Lost Highway
Who’s next, who’s next
Loretta Lynn knocking on a DJ’s door
Possum passed out on a backstage floor
Hillbilly pickers packed in dusty cars
Honky Tonk heroes packing out them bars
Who’s next, who’s next
CHORUS:
Who’ll ride a Greyhound all night long
Stand in line for hours just to sing one song
Who’s flat broke and would rather starve
Than get a day job or hock their guitars
It’s a long, hard climb up those Ryman steps
Who, who’s next
Cash kicking out the Opry footlights
Haggard’s Mama Tried, but he’s doing time
Willie’s back in Austin, Waylon’s growing out his hair
Pull back the curtain, Charlie Pride ain’t scared
Who’s next, who’s next
CHORUS:
Who’ll play guitar till their fingers bleed
Turn all their pain into poetry
Who’s on Broadway gigging for tips
Smelling like smoke and trying new licks
It’s a long, hard climb up those Ryman steps
Who, who’s next
BRIDGE:
Deep down in Texas making people dance
On a front porch in Kentucky with lightning quick hands
Singing in a choir learning harmony
Waiting for a chance to make history
CHORUS:
Who’ll ride a Greyhound all night long
Stand in line for hours just to sing one song
Who’s flat broke and would rather starve
Than get a day job or hock their guitar
It’s a long, hard climb up those Ryman steps
It’s a hell of a climb up those Ryman steps
Who, who’s next, tell me who’s next
