Here's the demo of "Monday Morning Church," which was recorded by Alan Jackson in 2004. It was my first major cut and really got me in the music business. I wrote it with Erin Enderlin. It was her first cut, too.
I’ve always been a fan of this song and it’s really cool to see the demo and compare it to the version that was cut. I too liked the change in perspective, but love how so much of it stayed true to your original version. Hearing this demo, made me better appreciate the subtleties and craft to this song. Thanks again for sharing!

The opportunity to hear a demo from a true pro is wonderful. I see Erin also recorded this as well. Beautiful.

This song caught my attention the very first time I went through the CD. I wound up playing it more than most of the other songs. A top 5 hit is absolutely awesome, but this one should’ve been more that! So many POWERFUL lines in this song.

MONDAY MORNING CHURCH
(Brent Baxter, Erin Enderlin)
VERSE: You left your Bible on the dresser
So I put it in the drawer
‘Cause I can’t seem to talk to God
Without yelling anymore
When I sit at your piano
I can almost hear those hymns
The keys are just collecting dust
But I can’t close the lid
CHORUS: You left my heart as empty as a Monday morning church
It used to be so full of faith, but now it only hurts
And I can hear the Devil whisper things are only getting worse
You left my heart as empty as a Monday morning church
VERSE: The preacher came by Sunday
Said he missed me at the service
He told me Jesus loves me
But I’m not sure I deserve it
‘Cause the faithful man that you loved
Is nowhere to be found
Since they took all that he believed
And laid it in the ground
CHORUS: [REPEAT]
BRIDGE: Well, I still believe in Heaven
And I’m sure you made it there
But as for me without your love, girl
I don’t have a prayer
CHORUS: [REPEAT]
TAG: You left your Bible on the dresser
So I put it in a drawer

Such a great song Brent. Demo sounds great but I love it from a male perspective. Alan Jackson did the song big justice!
