Written in memorial to my mother, who passed away in March, 2014. The vocals are mine, the piano track is by a gifted friend.
I didn't write this to be commercial, so bear that in mind should you have a thought about the song to share. The title isn't the most original thought I've ever had, but it say's what I wanted to say in regard to my Mom, who was a bird lover.
Thank you so much, Dennis. Obviously, this song holds a special place in my heart, and it makes me feel good that at least one person appreciates what I was trying to do here. Yes, the lyric does capture, somewhat, my mother’s “essence.” The line you referenced is probably my favorite too, so I’m pleased you mentioned it. It chokes me up a bit every time I hear it. Recording the vocal was a real challenge, as you might expect. I’m so glad I sucked it up and did it though. I’m really, really happy you liked the song. Thank you!

Fly Me to Where You Are
How can the stars still shine?
Are they shining still,
Where you are tonight?
All I know, is this world lacks grace
Without your smile
Without your sweet face
Somehow, do you still go on?
In a dream, in a prayer, in a songbird's song?
Fly... me to where you are...
Right... of the morning star...
I know that you must still be
More than this empty space on the inside of me
Why does the sun still rise,
When it can't be seen
By your blue eyes?
Is it far... to where you stand?
Can I be there by night
If you take my hand?
Somewhere, where the songbird goes
On a wing,on a breeze, on the scent of a rose
Fly... me to where you are...
Right... of the morning star...
I know that you must still be
More than a page folded down in my memory
You're a bloom, you're a stream, you're a shooting star
You're a poem, you're a rainbow, you can't be far...so
Chorus
Fly...fly...fly...fly...fly...

Randall,
I really loved this song and it left me with goosebumps. What a great way to pay respect to your mother. So many really great lines that fit perfect for someone who is a bird lover and nature. “Why does the sun still rise, when it can’t be seen by your blue eyes?” wow!
Thanks for sharing this with us and for writing a song our of the love. I obviously didn’t know your mother, but it feels like this song really captured her essence.
Nice job!
