About This Song

I never intended to write this song. It came from on of Brent’s Daily Kickstarters. The word was back.

I really like this, especially the “burned up like a fallin star.” I can see this touching people since it is a version of the saying “the one that got away.”
I think there’s a few lines that may be a little better either way minor adjustments, like the Christian line…saying something like you know it instead of she is can change the way it comes across. Worth a try to see if it does!

Great! How I perceived the song is a man who lost his faith and is asking the Lord to “take him back” in repentance. I agree with DeeDee if you could change the like about the girl being a Christian. Maybe I lost my way as a Christian.

Awesome writing and melody.

VERSE 1
You wore the wedding dress your sister shared
Blue flowers in your hair
Don’t know why i got scared
Ran away and left you there
Worshipping the neon sun
Let my wild horses run
Booze and drugs made me numb
All my stitches came undone

CHORUS
Girl, you are a christian
You’ve told me I’m forgiven
But I’m asking you for more than that
Jesus helped with my repenting
Can he help you with forgetting
Build a future from my checkered past
Will you take me back
Will you take me back

VERSE 2
Swept the floors at local bars
Did some busking in the parks
Had to eat, sold my guitar
Burned up like a falling star
Lower Broads where I’ve been
Sobered up with 12 step men
Slept at Room in the Inn
Can my heart come home again

CHORUS
Girl, you are a christian
You’ve told me I’m forgiven
But I’m asking you for more than that
Jesus helped with my repenting
Can he help you with forgetting
Build a future from my checkered past
Will you take me back
Will you take me back

BRIDGE
Knocked on your door to make amends,
Blue flowers in my shaking hands,
Your old man let me in
Resistol hat in my hand
CHORUS (FINAL)
Girl, you are a christian
You’ve told me I’m forgiven
But I’m asking you for more than that
Prayed with a preacher at rock bottom
Said my sins can be forgotten
If God erased my ugly past
will you take me back
OUTRO
Jesus helped with my repenting
Will he help you with forgetting
Will you take me back
Please take me back
