Last week an old school friend sent an email out to a bunch of people we hung around with at that time. He was sorting out his old stuff from where he lived as a kid, and wanted to know if we thought he should keep any of his old toys and things. Did I keep anything of mine? I wrote this based off the note, and my reply.
I'm open to feedback on everything here really. I'm not precious - this isn't as good as I want it to be. Where can I fix it?

a reminder of a past hard to part with
sentiment will tear you to pieces
faded pictures are all you should keep
where you can see in to the eyes of another time

a third decade to force a decision
no other way but to make up your mind
these things helped to make us who we are
now it's time to decide
which things to keep
and which to leave behind
a bear full of coins and books you didn't read
the toys you used to get in fucking happy meals
they were only hollow marketing then
these useless things are better to forget
to differentiate you'd think would be simple
but the tricks that keep us in will always be bigger than you
