About This Song

This country heartbreak song mixes sharp humor, attitude, and a little revenge with a whole lot of truth. When loyalty disappears and promises turn into lies, sometimes a dog sounds like the better companion.

Melody and lyrics all written by me. Used SUNO to create the demo.

Good idea!
Worth working on …great start!
I think it’d be better if you say the dog czn get on the couch instead of put him on it…little details and changes could make it better.

I think you hit all of the elements of break ups and bad relationships and why a dog is better. Its relatable and funny, but I agree with DeeDee that a few contextual changes could really enhance it. One small thing that I see is the bridge is a little short… maybe play on something about a even a stray can find his way home. Other than that, I love it and could hear Miranda singing this to Blake! wink

I think I’ll get me a dog
I'll let him follow me home
I’ll put him on the couch that you’ve been wearing out for so damn long
I’m kicking you to the curb
Cause that’s where the strays belong
Instead of wasting my love on you, I’d rather get me a dog

I’m sweeping up your promises
Like glass off the hardwood
You're burying your bone at night
All through the neighborhood
If I want a mutt that's living here rent free
Then I'll find better at the Humane Society
For what I need….

I think I’ll get me a dog
I'll let him follow me home
I’ll put him on the couch that you’ve been wearing out for so damn long
I’m kicking you to the curb
Cause that’s where the strays belong
Instead of wasting my love on you, I’d rather get me a dog
(Hey)

It's time for me to find someone who'll treat me like a princess
A dog would never act like I'm his private maid and waitress
All I ever needed was some loyalty
But there's a rescue waiting somewhere to rescue me
(Oh Oh)

I think I’ll get me a dog
I’ll let him follow me home
I’ll let him on the couch that you’ve been wearing out for so damn long
I’m kicking you to the curb
Cause that’s where the strays belong
Instead of wasting my love on you
Instead of waking up next to you
I’d rather get me a dog
