Song for a teen/young woman, coming-into-her-power type song.
This is a temp vocal track. The final vocal should be really confident and powerful to match the message of the song.
Also, the production isn't quite right yet. The EQ on the harp isn't right yet... it should sound glossier and smoother and less tinny.
So my questions are:
Does the melody sound current?
Does the music sound current?
Do the drums sound ok or too beat-boxy.
What about the synth.
Do you like the harp, or does it distract/confuse (or repel, lol).
Hi Dan,
Thanks for listening! I listened more closely to the harp. I think I’ll cut it out altogether where it is rather quiet in the background.
I often wonder if the complexity of the arpeggios I do (there aren’t actually any glissandos in the song) are too hard sonically for people to ‘hear’ if they aren’t used to hearing a harp. In other words, I wonder if that was a guitar riff if listeners would still find it distracting or is it just, woah, what’s that instrument.
These vocals will be done by someone else… I am currently scouting around.
cheers

I think the harp is a great introductory instrument (as well as one for the verses and instrumental loops), but the glissandos don’t necessarily work for me when the rhythms come in. I like the tone of the song when it gets to the chorus, and the driving beat with the drums and synth I think need a more empowered vocal. You seem to stay on that softer tone throughout. I was expecting a larger, more “from the gut” powerful vocal during the “you believe in me” lyric. The drums seem a little beat boxy, but if it’s a power ballad, then why not. You could even use a rhythm with an emphasis on the 1 and 3, rather than the ONE two ONE two ONE two that is there. (Sorry, rhythms are hard to write down). Cool song though. Really think it would resonate with people.
