I co-wrote a similar “style” song that I felt strongly about writing - not caring about the answers to your two questions. When it got flatly rejected last April on those merits alone, I put it away and moved on to write other songs. I played if from time to time at writer’s rounds, and the room would go DEAD silent - I never finished it without having everyone’s attention. So I pulled it back out, and I’m working on a full demo because the feedback I got now was that here in Feb 2022 the answers to both of your questions are more likely “yes” than “abolutely not”.

“A Sign” is POWERFUL. It got my undivided attention once I heard the vocal. Verse One, whew! My only suggestion is to eliminate the entire intro and have the first thing the listener hears is the passion in the vocals. Good luck grin

A Sign
Jonny Born

If I'm being honest
I really don't know
Where you went
Or where I'll go
When I hear the Good Lord's last call
And I turn my head to home

I'll bet your hand was shaking
When you touched that gate
To check if it would open
Of if you were too damn late
But something tells me you were welcome
Man at least that's what I prayed

From where you are now
I'm wonderin' if
Everything we thought about
And everything we did
Will really be forgotten
Will He really forgive
Does He only count the mistakes
Or the good days you live
To a brother with a past like mine
Can you show me a sign

I know you're probably busy
You got better things to do
Than put to bed the worries
Of another wayward fool
But man the day you left us
Our world stopped turning too

From where you are now
I'm wonderin' if
Everything we thought about
And everything we did
Will really be forgotten
Will He really forgive
Does He only count the mistakes
Or the good days you live
To a brother with a past like mine
Would you show me a sign

(INST)

From where you are now
I'm wonderin' if
Everything we thought about
And everything we did
Will really be forgotten
Will He really forgive
Does He only count the mistakes
Or the good days you live
To a brother with a past like mine
If it's too much to ask that's fine
But, I don't want to live the rest of my life blind
Can you show me a sign
Can you show me a sign
