About This Song

This song was written from a real life experience. My best friend passed away at 33 as he left behind a two year old boy and four year old boy and his loving wife. The boys didn't understand that there Dad went to Heaven, to them it was like Wal-Mart, let's just go get pick him up. They soon realized there Dad wasn't coming home. Take a Listen.

Verse
Today’s not Sunday so why are we in church?
Where is my daddy did he have to work?
As tears rolled down momma’s face, she turned to say,
your daddy’s gone to heaven, that’s why where here today.

But today is Friday and he knew I had a game,
and if he’s not there with me, then I don’t wanna play
I bet him my allowance I’d hit a home run
but the preacher keeps saying he’s in heaven above

Chorus
let’s just drive to heaven maybe he needs a ride, I know he’s a busy man it must have slipped his mind.
He’s never missed a baseball game or a story late at night, so if heaven’s not that far away can we go there? Just drive

Verse II
Well today must be a sad day, tears in everyone’s eyes,
Walking through the chapel, they stare down at their side.
Looking at that wooden box up there on a stand, flowers all around, I can’t comprehend
So momma took my hand and then we got in line, when I looked in that box is when I realized
My daddy was just lying there, so peacefully, he felt so near but was still out of reach

Chorus
let’s just drive to heaven maybe he needs a ride, lets make sure he makes it before the game tonight
I know he wants to see me hit my very first home run, cheering with pride from the grandstands above, Just drive (GO RIGHT INTO LEAD)

Momma drive, don’t cry, momma don’t you cry

Bridge
It’s the bottom of the 9th and the scores is three to three, this ones’ for you daddy you can always count on me.
(PIANO STOPS AND BREAKS THIS DOWN, JUST LIKE I DID ON ACOUSTIC TRACK)
As the pitcher starts his windup, I was ready to swing, as the bat hits the ball,
It’s a long drive “”””””””””””””, it’s a long drive “””””””””””””””” to heaven I love you daddy.
